NES Dance Event - Tuesday, June 12 from 5:30pm-7:00 pm
Chaperones Required

The Annual NES/NIS Spring Dance will take place on Tuesday, June 12 from 5:30-7pm at the Nantucket Intermediate School! This is not a drop off; parents or guardians are required to attend the dance with your student. We are thrilled to bring the dance back to ‘home plate’ now that our new school is constructed. Our theme this year is Wiggin’ Out in the 80’s! As a reminder, only sneakers are allowed in the Gymnasium at NIS. This event is a fun and free dance for all NES/NIS families. We have pizza, beverages, a DJ to get you in the groove, prizes for best costumes and dance moves, and an amazing array of RAFFLE BASKETS. We are asking every family to contribute one item to their child’s class. Please find the raffle donations form that was sent home with your student to find your class raffle basket theme. Raffle Donations are due no later than Friday, June 1, 2018!

The raffle baskets will be on display starting Monday, June 4th. You will be able to buy as many tickets as you or your children like at the dance. Raffle ticket prices are 1 for $2, 3 for $5, or 6 for $10. The drawings will take place by 6:45 pm.

The Holiday House Tour - Stroll Weekend

Thank you to our friends at the Nantucket Historical Association for continuing to partner with us on this beloved community event and for helping us celebrate the 35th year of the Holiday House Tour this past Stroll weekend!

Three Holiday Events - One Ticket:

  •  Tour of antique and newly refurbished Nantucket homes professionally decorated for the season.
  •  The Nantucket Historical Association Festival of Trees at the Whaling Museum (night of tour only).
  •  A Reception at the Whaling Museum featuring caroling by The Accidentals and Naturals and sweet treats prepared by the NHS Culinary Arts students.

Community Spelling Bee - (February)

Congratulations to “The Hip Bees” (Laura Coburn, Tracy Mailloux and Janet Giles) and to the student team “Mei Meo” (Grace Churns, Kathryn Kyomitmaitee, and Maryann Vasquez) for taking home the coveted 2018 Spelling Bee trophies!

And what kind of supporters of education would the Friends be without the Spelling Bee?? The Annual Community Spelling Bee is a wonderful opportunity for the community to get together in the winter and benefits the programs of the Friends of Nantucket Public Schools. Teams of three compete for the ultimate speller award and range from students to businesses to non-for-profits - and everyone gets into the act!

While teams are competing, the High School Culinary Arts students put on a show of their own in the cafeteria, providing a warm spaghetti dinner for guests beginning at 5:30pm. It is a great opportunity for community members to visit the school and see what the kids are up to.

We offer many opportunities for families and members of the community to contribute to our programs. Contact us at 508-228-5269 or email us at friendsofackschools@gmail.com.

Our meetings are open to the public- please join us!
FONPS meets the second Wednesday of every month in Room 104B at NHS.
